Optimization of a Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) Method for Detecting 28 Allergens in Various Personal Care Products

Fragrances are among the most common ingredients in cosmetics products. Importantly, exposure to fragrances on a daily basis might pose health risk, leading serious effects, such as contact dermatitis or eczema. Annex III of European Union Directive Cosmetic Products and Gulf Cooperation Council standardization organization (GSO) introduced restrictions for 26 allergens, with their concentrations exceeding 0.001% 0.01% leave-on products rinse-off products, respectively. In current study, we aimed expand scope analytical method (EN16274, 2012) include broader range matrices. The optimized was validated by examining statistical approach, including selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision, measurement uncertainty. Successfully, data demonstrated acceptable limits according validation protocols, linearity showing satisfactory regression r > 0.995. During performance assessment, samples were extracted using ultrasound-assisted extraction extract allergens that yielded relatively high recoveries. Studies matrices spiked at different levels showed insignificant bias an average 0.07 µg/g.
